embroidered. Silk-screening leaves a flat print
of nontoxic permanent ink on the backpack’s
surface that is waterproof and can’t be wiped
off. In silk-screen printing there is a charge
for each color; in embroidery there is a charge
per 10,000 stitches. Either method may be used
to personalize a backpack with text, logos, and
other designs.
Backpacks can be made from mesh, polyester,
vinyl, nylon, burlap, canvas, leather, and even
clear PVC. Denier Nylon, a popular choice, is
durable, waterproof, and lightweight, as well as
inexpensive. Some backpacks are reinforced for
additional support and durability with heavy
vinyl, foam padding, nylon, or PVC backing.
Popular colors for personalized backpacks
include tan, black, red, brown, dark green,
royal blue, and yellow. They can be imprinted or
embroidered in nearly any color. Backpacks
usually have zipper closures, but other options
include drawstrings, front straps, snaps, or
open tops. Some backpacks have pockets for pens,
cell phones, and other items.
